Be Still and Know Calm

Life has a way of bringing difficulties to our paths and it may feel like we are on a ship in the midst of a severe storm at sea, being tossed about endlessly. So how in the world can we be still when such tempests are raging upon us?

One practice that is simple, yet so powerful is to remember to focus on the breath. When we close our eyes and bring attention to the breath, we calm the mind and spirit. Try it… close your eyes, inhale and feel the air filling your lungs. Now exhale and feel your stomach fall and relax. Stay with this movement for about 30 seconds and notice how you feel afterward.

Take two deep breaths, focusing on the word “calm”. How do you feel?
